Rear propeller shaft (Defender 2007+)

Removal

1.

WARNING: Ensure that the vehicle is supported securely and that wheel chocks are placed under the front wheels.

Raise the rear of the car.

2.

NOTE: Place a mark on the rear propeller shaft for the parking brake flange connection.

Unscrew and discard the four nuts of the flange connection of the propeller shaft with the parking brake.

NOTE: The above procedure may require turning the driveshaft.

3.

NOTE: Place a mark on the rear driveshaft for flange connection to the rear differential.

NOTE: This procedure may require turning the driveshaft.

Unscrew and discard the four nuts of the flange connection of the propeller shaft to the rear axle.

4. Disconnect the flange connection of the propeller shaft from the parking brake.

5. Remove the driveshaft.

Installation

1. Clean the mating surfaces of the drive shaft flanges.

2. Screw in the bolts of the flange connection of the propeller shaft with the parking brake.

NOTE: Make sure to align the marks made earlier.

3. Position the propeller shaft against the rear axle flange and tighten the bolts.

NOTE: This procedure may require turning the driveshaft.

Screw in the nuts and bolts securing the propeller shaft to the rear axle flange and tighten to 47 Nm.

5. Screw on the nuts securing the propeller shaft to the parking brake and tighten to 50 Nm.

NOTE: This procedure may require turning the driveshaft.

6. Remove the supports and lower the vehicle.

7. Apply the parking brake.
