Freelander 1
Freelander 1

The Freelander car from the British company Land Rover has been produced since the end of 1997. It is positioned as a premium class all-wheel drive frameless compact crossover with quite good off-road performance.

The company hesitated for a long time to produce such a not quite "full-fledged" SUV and spoil its image, although in those years cars of this class were quite popular and this popularity was growing rapidly. But they finally decided to take this step and firmly occupied this niche in the market.

First generation Freelander was produced until 2006 and had quite a few forms, both three-door and five-door with petrol and diesel engines. There were models with a soft roof over the second row of seats, it could be removed. There was also a Freelander Sport, which had a ground clearance 30 mm lower than the base model and a stiffer suspension.

This model was the first to feature a hill descent control system from Land Rover. It was also the first to feature independent suspension and a frameless monocoque body.

In 2006, the first generation was replaced Freelander 2. It was launched into production and sales also began. In 2007, the HSE modification with 19-inch wheel disks was released.

This version of the SUV received the maximum EuroNCAP rating for occupant safety - 5 stars, which makes it one of the safest cars in its class.

Freelander 2 is equipped with petrol and diesel engines with automatic and manual transmissions. Petrol - 3.2 liter, six-cylinder in-line engine with a capacity of 233 hp. Diesel - these are 2.2 liter turbocharged engines with a capacity of 150, 160 and 190 hp, having 4 cylinders in-line arrangement.

In 2012, this Freelander 2 received another engine - a petrol, in-line, four-cylinder with a capacity of 240 hp. Acceleration with this engine takes about 8.8 seconds to 100 km / h. Average fuel consumption is 9.6 liters per 100 km. Impressive figures!

The closest competitors and cars with similar characteristics today are: Audi Q5, BMW X3, Citroen C-Crosser, Chery Tiggo, Chevrolet Captiva, Honda CR-V, Kia Sorento, Hyundai Santa Fe, Nissan X-Trail, Suzuki Vitara, Renault Duster, Peugeot 4008, Mazda CX-7, Toyota RAV4 и Mitsubishi Outlander.
