Inner crossmember — removal and installation (Defender 2007+)

Removal


1. Disconnect the ground wire from the battery.

For more information, refer to the chapter: Disconnecting and connecting the battery (414-01 Battery, Battery Mounting and Cables, General Procedures).

2. Remove the control panel.

For more information, please refer to the chapter: Control Panel (501-12 Instrument panel and console, Removal and installation).

NOTE: Clamps should be discarded.


Remove the audio unit support bracket. Remove and discard the 5 clips.

4. Release the steering column bracket. Remove the bolt.

5. Change the position of the steering column bracket.
  • 1. Unscrew, but do not remove, the bolt.
  • 2. Change the position of the bracket.

6. Remove the cross member of the body. Unscrew and discard the 6 nuts.

Installation


1. Install the elements back in place in reverse order.
  • 1. Tighten (tightening torque 23 Nm).

2. Tighten (tightening torque 22 Nm).

2. Tighten (tightening torque 22 Nm).


3. Connect the ground wire to the battery.
