Windscreen wiper arm and shaft (Defender 2007+)

Removal


1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

2. Remove the steering column cover.

For more information, refer to the chapter: Steering Column Covers (501-05 Interior trim, Removal and installation).

3. Remove the windshield wiper motor.

For more information, refer to the chapter: Windshield wiper motor (501-16 Windscreen wipers and washers, Removal and installation).

4. Remove the two screws and move the heater fan switch to the side.

5. Remove the two screws securing the driver's side window defogging air duct.

6. Disconnect the pipe from the glass defogging duct and remove the duct.

7. Loosen the bolt and unscrew the nut securing the steering column support bracket and remove the bracket.

8. Remove the 11 screws securing the instrument panel support beam.

8. Remove the 11 screws securing the instrument panel support beam.


9. Remove the clamps securing the washer line to the windshield wiper rack pipe.



10. Completely loosen the four nuts securing the shields to the support arm and wiper shaft and remove the windshield wiper rack pipes.

11. Remove the seals from the gearbox shafts.

12. Unscrew the two nuts securing the support arm and the wiper shaft and remove the sealing washers.

13. Carefully pull the instrument panel support beam away from the bulkhead just enough to remove the support arm and wiper shaft.

Installation


1. Loosen completely, but do not remove, the gearbox shield mounting nuts.

2. Lubricate the wiper support arm and shaft.

3. Install the support arm and wiper shaft, install the sealing washers and tighten the nuts to 5 Nm.

4. Install the shaft seals.

5. Install the wiper bar pipes and tighten the support arm and wiper shaft nuts enough to hold the pipes. Tighten the gearbox shield nuts to 6 Nm after installing the windshield wiper motor.

6. Align the washer pipe with the rack pipe and secure with clamps.

7. Align the instrument panel support beam and secure with screws.

8. Install the steering column support bracket and tighten the bolt and nut to 45 Nm.

9. Connect the defogging duct to the pipeline, position the relay bracket and secure the duct with screws.



10. Install the heater fan switch and secure with screws.

11. Install the windshield wiper motor.

12. Install the steering column cover.

13. Connect the ground wire to the battery.
