Replacing the rocker arm shaft (Discovery 1)

1. Remove the appropriate valve cover.

2. Loosen the four rocker arm axle support bolts.

3. Remove the rocker arm shaft.

3. Remove the rocker arm shaft.


Note: Each rocker arm shaft has a notch at one end. The recess should be directed upwards and located at the front for the right axle and at the rear for the left axle.


4. Clean the mating surfaces of the head under the rocker arm axle supports.

5. Install the rocker arm axle stands and insert the push rods into the rocker arms.

6. Tighten the rocker arm strut mounting bolts in several stages to a torque of 38 N·m.

7. Install the valve cover.
