The windshield wiper control switch assembly is located on the right side of the housing and is attached to it with two screws. The switch is connected to the main wiring harness via a connector, which is located on the back of the switch. The switch controls the following functions:
  • Intermittent wiper mode, continuous low speed wiper mode and continuous high speed wiper mode
  • Single Windshield Cleaning
  • Windshield cleaning/washing
  • Cleaning/washing the rear window
  • Selecting the cycle duration in intermittent mode of the cleaner

Operation of the windshield wiper control switch


The lever is moved up or down to activate the windscreen wiper functions. To activate single wipe, move the lever down. The switch is not locked in this position and the wipers stop when the lever is released and returns to the central position. The switch contact corresponding to the single wipe mode is connected by a wire to the CJB and ground. The same connection to the CJB is used for the continuous high speed mode. When the lever is moved, the circuit between the CJB and ground is closed. The CJB detects the circuit closure and operates the wipers as long as the switch contacts are closed.



To activate intermittent operation, the wiper switch is moved upwards until it locks. The wipers then operate for the cycle duration set using the rotary control on the wiper stalk. The wipers continue to operate in intermittent mode until the switch is moved to the off or continuous low/high speed position. The switch contact corresponding to intermittent mode is connected between the CJB and ground. When the switch is moved to the intermittent mode position, the circuit is closed. The CJB detects that the circuit is closed and operates the wipers in intermittent mode for the selected cycle duration for as long as the switch contact is closed.

The intermittent cycle duration is determined by the position of the rotary control on the windscreen wiper stalk. The rotary control allows the driver to select one of six cycle durations to suit the weather conditions. The rotary control is connected via three wires to the CJB and one wire to ground. Each of the six positions corresponds to a specific combination of signals in the three wires. The CJB uses the three wires to determine the selected mode and activates the windscreen wipers with the corresponding cycle duration.

To activate the continuous low speed mode, the wiper switch is moved up to the second detent position. The wipers operate at low speed until the wiper switch is switched off or moved to the intermittent or continuous high speed position. The switch contact corresponding to the continuous low speed mode is connected between the CJB and ground. When the switch is moved to the continuous low speed position, the circuit is closed. The CJB detects that the circuit is closed and operates the wipers at low speed for as long as the switch contact is closed.



To engage the continuous high speed mode, the wiper switch is moved up to the third detent position. The wipers operate at high speed until the wiper switch is switched off or set to the intermittent or continuous low speed position. The switch contact corresponding to the continuous high speed mode is connected between the CJB and ground. When the switch is moved to the continuous high speed position, the circuit is closed. The CJB detects that the circuit is closed and operates the wipers at high speed for as long as the switch contact is closed.

Turning on the rear window wiper and washer


To operate the rear window wiper/washer functions, the switch is moved rearwards. To operate the rear window wiper, the switch must be moved rearwards to the first detent position. The switch contact corresponding to rear window wipe is connected between the CJB and ground. When the switch is moved to the rear window wiper position, the circuit is closed. The CJB detects that the circuit is closed and operates the rear window wiper for as long as the switch contact is closed.

To operate the rear window washer, the switch must be moved to the second non-latching position. When the switch is moved to this position, the circuit between the CJB and ground is closed. The CJB detects the circuit closure and operates the rear window washer as long as the switch contact is closed.
