Steering column lock and ignition switch housing (Discovery 3)

Removal

CAUTION: If it is necessary to remove the ignition lock cylinder together with the switch, make sure that the shaft of the unit DOES NOT TURN. Failure to do so will result in improper operation of the lock and will require replacement of the unit.

1. To gain access, fully extend the steering column.

2. Remove the steering wheel. For more information, refer to Steering Wheel (57.61.01)

3. Remove the upper steering column cover. Release the 6 clips.



4. Remove the lower steering column cover.

• Remove 3 Torx screws.
• Release the steering column adjustment lever.

5. Disconnect the 2 electrical connectors from the steering column multifunction switches.





6. Disconnect the 2 electrical connectors from the coil spring.



7. Remove the steering column switch assembly. Remove the 4 Torx bolts.



8. Remove the passive coil.

• Disconnect the electrical connector.
• Release the 2 clamps.

9. Remove the ignition switch assembly.

• Remove and discard the 2 shear bolts.
• Disconnect the electrical connector.

NOTE: Do not perform further disassembly if the part is removed only for access.

Remove the ignition lock cylinder.

• Turn the ignition key to position I.
• Insert a pin with a diameter of no more than 2 mm into the hole in the ignition lock cylinder body to press the plunger and release the ignition lock cylinder.

11. Remove the ignition switch. Press the 2 clips.

Installation

1. Install the ignition switch. Secure the clamps.

2. Install the ignition lock cylinder.

• Turn the ignition key to position I.
• Find the guides and press the plunger.

3. Install the passive coil.

• Secure the clamps.
• Connect the electrical connector.

4. Install the ignition switch assembly.

• Tighten the shear bolts until the bolt heads shear off.
• Connect the electrical connector.

5. Install the steering column switch assembly. Tighten the Torx bolts. (tightening torque 3 Nm).

6. Connect the electrical connectors of the coil spring and multifunction switches.

7. Install the steering column covers.

8. Install the steering wheel. For more information, refer to Steering Wheel (57.61.01)
