Removing
All cars
1. Disconnect the wire "masses" from the battery.
For more information, see the chapter: Disconnecting and connecting the battery (414-01 Battery, Battery Mount and Wires, General Procedures).
Vehicles with air conditioning.
2. Remove the refrigerant from the air conditioning system (A/C). For more information, see the chapter: Refrigerant recovery, evacuation and charging of the air conditioning system (A/C) (412-00 Climate control system - General information, General procedures).

CAUTION: Plug all openings. Use new plugs.
Disconnect the low and high pressure refrigerant lines of the A/C compressor.
- Turn out a bolt.
- Remove the O-ring and discard it.
All cars
4. Remove the top cooling fan shroud. Release 6 clips.
5. Remove the filter element.

6. Remove the air filter. Turn out 3 bolts.
7. Remove the air filter.
- 1. Disconnect the air filter inlet pipe.
- 2. Remove the air filter.
Installation
All cars
1. Install the elements in the reverse order of disassembly. Tighten (tightening torque 13 Nm).
Vehicles with air conditioning

NOTE: Before installing the compressor o-rings, soak them in new compressor oil.
NOTE: Remove and discard plugs.
Tighten (tightening torque 30 Nm). Install new o-rings.
All cars
3. Connect the wire "masses" to the battery.
