Air filter — removal and installation (Defender 2007+)

Removal

All cars

1. Disconnect the ground wire from the battery.

For more information, refer to the chapter: Disconnecting and connecting the battery (414-01 Battery, Battery Mounting and Cables, General Procedures).

Cars with air conditioning.

2. Remove the refrigerant from the air conditioning (A/C) system. For more information, refer to the chapter: Refrigerant Recovery, Evacuation and Charging of the Air Conditioning (A/C) System (412-00 Climate Control System - General Information, General Procedures).

CAUTION: Plug all openings. Use new plugs.

Disconnect the low and high pressure refrigerant lines of the air conditioning compressor.

• Remove the bolt.
• Remove the sealing ring and discard it.

All cars

4. Remove the upper cooling fan shroud. Release the 6 clips.



5. Remove the filter element.

6. Remove the air filter. Unscrew the 3 bolts.



7. Remove the air filter.

• 1. Disconnect the air cleaner intake pipe.
• 2. Remove the air filter.

Installation

All cars

1. Install the components in the reverse order of disassembly. Tighten (tightening torque 13 Nm).



Cars with air conditioning

NOTE: Before installing compressor O-rings, soak them in new compressor oil.

NOTE: Remove and discard plugs.

Tighten it up (tightening torque 30 Nm). Install new O-rings.

3. Connect the ground wire to the battery.
