Oil filter — removal and installation (Freelander 1)

Dismantling

1. Disconnect the negative battery terminal.

2. Remove the soundproofing casing.

ENGINE - Td4, Inlet and outlet camshafts, Engine soundproofing casing, models produced before May 2002.

3. For better access, remove the dipstick.

4. Place a rag under the oil filter housing to collect any spilled oil.

CAUTION: Avoid spilling oil or liquid on the generator.

5. Using a socket wrench, carefully loosen the filter housing cover and allow the oil to drain into the pan.

6. Unscrew the filter cover and discard the 3 gaskets.

7. Remove and dispose of the filter element.

Installation

1. Wipe the filter cover and its housing.

2. Install a new filter element into the housing.

3. Install new gaskets and lubricate them with clean engine oil.

4. Install the oil filter cover in place and tighten it. Tightening torque 25 Nm.

5. Replace the dipstick.

6. Reinstall the engine soundproofing cover.

ENGINE - Td4, Inlet and outlet camshafts, Engine soundproofing casing, models produced before May 2002.

7. Connect the negative cable to the battery.

8. Start the engine and let it run until the oil pressure indicator goes out.

9. Stop the engine. Check the oil level again.
