Top of the tray gasket (Freelander 1)

Dismantling

1. Disconnect the negative battery terminal.

2. Drain the oil from the engine and remove the filter element from the oil filter housing.

MAINTENANCE, Engine oil and oil filter - Td4.

3. Remove the front right wheel.

4. Unscrew 3 bolts and remove the right mudguard.

5. Unscrew the bolt securing the oil dipstick housing to the oil filter housing.

6. Remove the dipstick tube and discard the O-ring.

7. Models with air conditioning: Remove the two bolts and compressor belt tensioner.

8. Remove the three bolts securing the cooling system pipe to the sump and to the cylinder block.

9. Models with air conditioning: Loosen the compressor mounting bolts, move it to the side and secure it.

10. Models with air conditioning: Remove the three bolts and air conditioning compressor bracket.

11. Loosen the bolt securing the lower engine mount cross member to the subframe.

12. Unscrew the bolt securing the lower cross member to the bracket on the pallet.

12. Unscrew the bolt securing the lower cross member to the bracket on the pallet.

13. Unscrew the five bolts and remove the crossmember bracket.

14. Unscrew the 3 bolts securing the engine sump to the gearbox.

15. Remove the 19 bolts and the pan. Discard the gasket.

Installation

1. Wipe the pan and mating surface.

2. Apply a bead of sealant (Part # STC 50550) to the areas shown in the illustration.

3. Install a new gasket on the pan, put the pan in its place, screw in the mounting bolts, but do not tighten them.

4. Screw in the bolts that secure the oil pan to the gearbox, tighten them slightly and loosen them again. This will position the rear flange of the oil pan correctly relative to the gearbox.

5. Tighten the M8 bolts evenly to 28 Nm and the M6 bolts (accessible through the gearbox housing) to 10 Nm.

6. Tighten the oil pan mounting bolts to the gearbox. Tightening torque 85 Nm.

7. Install the lower crossmember bracket and tighten the mounting bolts evenly. Tighten the M12 bolts to 50 Nm and the M10 bolts to 45 Nm.

8. Tighten the engine mount crossmember bolts. Tightening torque 100 Nm.

9. Models with air conditioning: Install the compressor bracket and tighten the bolts to 25 Nm.

10. Models with air conditioning: Install the compressor and tighten the bolts to 25 Nm.

11. Install the coolant distribution pipe on the pan, screw in the bolts and tighten them. Tightening torque 10 Nm.

12. Models with air conditioning: Install the compressor belt tensioner and install the mounting bolts, but do not tighten them yet.

13. Models with air conditioning: Tighten the compressor drive belt.

AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM, Air conditioning compressor drive belt - for models with Td4 engine, Air conditioning compressor drive belt - for models with Td4 engine.

14. Install the dipstick cover, placing a new sealing ring on it. Tighten the bolts. Tightening torque 10 Nm.

15. Install the mudguard and tighten the mounting bolts to a torque of 10 Nm.

16. Reinstall the wheel(s) and tighten the nuts to 115 Nm.

17. Insert a new filter element of the lubrication system and fill the engine with oil.
