Tailgate — Removal and Installation (Defender 2007+)

Removal

1. Unscrew the three nuts and remove the spare wheel.

2. Remove the bolt securing the door opening limiter to the body.

3. Release the wiring harness grommet from the wiring harness cover and disconnect the electrical connectors.

4. Release the wiring harness cover and the wiring harness from the clips on the body.



5. Call an assistant and together unscrew the 6 screws securing the rear door hinges to the body and remove the rear door.

Installation

1. Have an assistant and together install the tailgate and insert, but do not tighten, the bolts.

2. Install the door opening limiter and tighten the bolt.

3. Align the rear door with the body and tighten the bolts.



4. Route the wiring harness through the body and secure the wiring harness cover.

5. Secure the electrical connectors of the wiring harness.

6. Secure the electrical wiring harness sealing bushing to the body.

7. Install the spare wheel on the rear door and secure it with nuts.

8. Adjust the rear door lock counter part.
