WARNING: The vehicle has permanent four-wheel drive. The following towing instructions must be strictly adhered to:
Towing a vehicle on all four wheels with a driver in control of the steering and brakes.
- Turn the ignition switch to position '1' to unlock the steering column.
- Select a neutral position in the gearbox and transfer case.
- Attach the towing cable or chain to the front towing eye (options shown).
- Release the parking brake.
CAUTION: The brake booster and power steering will not work when the engine is off. It will take more force on the pedal to activate the brakes. It will take more effort on the steering wheel to turn the front wheels. The vehicle's towing device should only be used in normal road conditions and should be avoided in cases where increased towing force is required on the vehicle.
Transporting a car with a trailer
The front and rear chassis rails are provided with lashing/towing lugs, see J6085, to facilitate securing the vehicle to a trailer or other means of transport.
CAUTION: Do not use bottom elements as fasteners.
Place the vehicle on a trailer and apply the parking brake. Select neutral gear in the gearbox.
Towing with a tow truck using the method of partial loading of the rear of the car
- If the front axle wheels must remain in contact with the road, turn the ignition switch to position '1' to unlock the steering column.
- Select a neutral position in the gearbox and transfer case.
- The steering wheel and/or steering gear must be locked in position «straight ahead». DO NOT use the steering lock mechanism for this purpose.
Starting from an external battery using connecting wires
WARNING: During normal battery operation, hydrogen and oxygen are produced. If there are open flames, sparks, or lit cigarettes near the battery, this gas mixture may explode. When charging or using the battery indoors, always provide adequate ventilation and protect your eyes.
Keep the kids out. Batteries contain sulfuric acid. Avoid contact with skin, eyes and clothing. Also, wear eye protection when working near batteries to completely eliminate the risk of acid solution getting into your eyes. If acid comes into contact with skin, eyes, or clothing, immediately flush the affected area with water for at least 15 minutes. If acid is swallowed, drink plenty of milk or water, followed by magnesium hydroxide, beaten eggs, or vegetable oil.
SEEK MEDICAL ASSISTANCE IMMEDIATELY.
To start from an external battery when the negative terminal of the battery is connected to "mass" body.
WARNING: To avoid personal injury, use extreme caution when connecting a booster battery to a discharged battery.
- Position the cars so that there is enough length of connecting wires, but the cars DO NOT touch each other. You can place a charged booster battery on the floor next to the vehicle.
- Turn off the ignition and all electrical devices, apply the parking brake and select neutral. Connect the connection wires as follows;
A. Connect one end of the first jumper wire to the positive (+) auxiliary battery terminal. B. Connect the other end of the first connecting wire to the positive (+) terminal of a discharged battery. C. Connect one end of the second connecting wire to the ground terminal (-) auxiliary battery. D. Connect the other end of the second jumper wire to a good ground point on the vehicle with the dead battery (e.g. to front engine lift eye as shown in J6086), NOT TO THE DISCHARGED BATTERY GROUND TERMINAL. Route connecting wires away from moving parts, pulleys, drive belts and fan blades.
WARNING: When making the last connection, an electric arc may occur which, if the connection is made near the battery, may cause an explosion.
- If the booster battery is on another vehicle, start the engine and let it idle.
- Start the vehicle with the dead battery following the engine start procedure in the Owner's Manual.
WARNING: If the vehicle does not start within 12 seconds maximum, switch off the ignition and investigate the cause. Failure to follow this instruction may result in permanent damage to the catalytic converter (if available).
- Remove «negative» connecting wire from the engine, and then disconnect from the auxiliary battery terminal.
- Remove «positive» connecting wire from the positive terminals of the auxiliary battery and the discharged battery.
