Inspection and verification
1. Check the customer's complaint.
2. Visually inspect for obvious mechanical and electrical problems.
Visual check
Mechanical elements |
electrical equipment |
• Coolant leaks • Coolant hoses • Coolant expansion tank • Radiator • Heater radiator • Drive belt • Fan with viscous coupling |
• Fuses • Fuse 29, saloon • Wiring harnesses • Loose or corroded connector (ov) • Cylinder head temperature sensor (CHT) • Engine oil temperature sensor (EOT) |
3. If an obvious cause of the problem you identified or described by the client is found, eliminate it before proceeding to further actions (if possible).
4. Read all DTCs before referring to the symptom table or DTC index (DTC) using an approved diagnostic system or scan tool.
- Clear all DTCs after troubleshooting.
Symptom table
sign | Possible reason | Operation |
Loss of coolant | Perform a visual inspection. If there are no obvious leaks, perform a pressure test using the service station equipment. Repair if necessary.
Overheat | Check the level and condition of the coolant. Carry out a pressure test using a workshop stand. Repair if necessary. Check the thermostat and make any necessary repairs. Check the operation of the viscous fan, make sure the viscous fan rotates freely. Check for airflow obstructions through the heatsink. Repair if necessary.
Engine does not reach normal temperature | Check thermostat operation. Check the operation of the viscous fan and ensure that the viscous fan is not sticking. Repair if necessary. |
See section 100-00 for a complete list of DTCs that can be logged in the vehicle. For more information, see: How to use this manual (100-00 General information, Description and principle of operation).
