Review

The audio system networks a number of networks and modules in the vehicle to provide a complete entertainment package for passengers.

Due to the complexity of the system, there are a number of different methods used to diagnose the system, as the networks used include the CAN bus (controller area network) and the MOST system (data transmission system for media systems).

For a detailed description of the design and operation of the audio system, refer to the relevant section in the service manual. For information on network diagnostics, refer to the "Network Data Exchange" section in the service manual.

Inspection and verification

1. Ensure that the customer's complaint is justified.

2. Visually inspect for obvious mechanical and electrical problems.

Mechanical factorsElectrical factors
  • Audio unit status and installation
  • Speaker condition and installation
  • Condition and installation of the amplifier
  • Status and installation of the satellite digital radio system (SDARS)
  • Remote control status and installation

  • Wiring harnesses
  • Fiber Optic Wiring Harnesses
  • Wiring harness/electrical connectors
  • Relay for the complex of information and entertainment systems and equipment
  • CAN electrical circuits
  • MOST electrical circuits

  • 3. If an obvious cause for the problem you identified or the customer described is found, resolve it before proceeding with further actions. (if possible).

    4. Use the approved diagnostic system or scan tool to retrieve all diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) before referring to the Symptom Chart and DTC Index.

Since DTCs are stored in more than one module, a full vehicle data read is recommended.

    Clear all DTCs after troubleshooting.

    DTC Index

NOTE: Generic scan tools cannot read the codes listed or can only read 5-digit codes. Match the 5 digits from the scan tool with the first 5 digits of the listed 7-digit code to identify the fault. (the last 2 digits provide additional information readable by a manufacturer approved diagnostic system).

Diagnosis of SDARS (digital satellite radio broadcasting)

The following information is intended to assist in diagnosing basic problems with your satellite radio system.

Diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) serve as the primary source of information when diagnosing problems other than basic faults.

There are five conditions that can affect the channels available:

    A: No signal available

The signal does not reach the module.

The vehicle must be in a direct line of communication with the satellite, i.e. in an open area and without any obstacles between the vehicle and the satellite.

NOTE: If the vehicle is located outside of America, this is the only possible condition.

B: More than 6 months have passed without a subscription

The original text can be found at www.LRman.ru
There is a 6-month free broadcasting period on channel 184 to allow testing of the system.

After this period, it is no longer possible to receive channels and a message about the lack of subscription is displayed.

C: Less than 6 months have passed without a subscription

The car can only receive channel 184, on other channels a message about the lack of subscription will be displayed.

    D: Family package subscription completed

All channels will be listened to, but adult channels will be blocked and unsubscribed messages will be displayed for these channels.

E: Subscription to the full package has been issued

All channels are available except for some paid channels. In this situation, a message about the lack of subscription will be displayed for such channels.

    System check

Tune in to channel 184 (typically this is the default channel for all presets.).

Select the direct channel input function by pressing the " key.#".

This operation will ensure that the audio signal is sent to the speakers if the C, D or E condition is present.

If status B is present, a subscription will be required.

    1. Are other systems affected?

The most common symptom is loss of audio signal from other infotainment equipment.; a good indicator of MOST problems is the failure of the display to switch from the home screen.

If other systems are affected, check the infotainment system's electrical circuits for loose or damaged electrical connectors and other damage. Refer to the electrical system manual.

    2. If only the satellite radio system is affected, retrieve DTCs from the module using the prescribed diagnostic system or scan tool.

Refer to the DTC index above.
