When working with the SRS system, the following rules must be strictly observed.
WARNING: All SRS system components must be replaced after 15 years of operation.
Warning:If the vehicle is equipped with a front passenger airbag, it is forbidden to install a child safety seat in the front seat that is designed to transport children facing the rear of the vehicle.
General warnings
The SRS system contains components that, if improperly handled, present a hazard to service personnel. The following instructions are intended to familiarize service personnel with the hazards of the SRS system and to demonstrate the consequences of improper handling of the SRS system.
WARNING: Always follow the SRS operating procedures and the recommended maintenance and repair procedures. Personnel authorized to work on the SRS system must have received special training and have copies of the SRS operating procedures.
WARNING: Do not perform any work on the SRS system until you have read the relevant sections of this Manual.
WARNING: Air bags contain flammable and hazardous substances. Any contact with water, acids or heavy metals may cause an explosion or other harmful effects. Do not disassemble, burn or expose non-activated air bags to electricity.
WARNING: A seat belt that has been subjected to a critical load during a collision or shows signs of damage must be replaced with a new one.
WARNING: Before performing welding on a vehicle equipped with the SRS system, the battery must be disconnected.
CAUTION: Do not expose air bags or seat belt pretensioners to temperatures above 85°C (185°F).
Please note that the instructions provided should not only be followed during direct repair of the SRS system. The same safety precautions should be observed when working on associated systems and components located in close proximity to the SRS system components. The following systems and components are not a complete list of such systems and components:
- Steering - Driver's front airbag, rotary switch
- Control Panel - Front Passenger Airbag
- Interior trim - Side curtain airbags
- Seats - Front seat belt pretensioners
- Electrical Equipment - SRS Wiring Harnesses, Connecting Wires and Connectors
- Front Doors - Side Airbags
How to deactivate the SRS system
Before working on or near the SRS components, the system must be deactivated.
To do this, follow these steps.
- Remove the key from the ignition switch
- Disconnect the battery. The ground wire is disconnected first.
- Wait for 10 minutes. During this time, the SRS power source is discharged.
The SRS system is powered by batteries, which ensure that the system is activated in the event of damage to the electrical supply system during an accident. Sufficient time (10 minutes) must pass for the batteries to fully discharge. This will eliminate the possibility of accidental activation of the system.
Installing SRS system components
To ensure reliable operation of the SRS system, periodic inspection and maintenance are required. All SRS components must be carefully inspected before installation. Do not install components that show signs of rough handling, such as dents, cracks, or residual deformation.
WARNING: The reliability of the SRS system directly affects the passive safety of the vehicle. Strictly adhere to the following rules.
WARNING: Do not use interior trims that cover air bags (such as A-pillar trims) to secure accessories or for other purposes.
- Do not install used SRS components.; do not attempt to repair SRS system components.
- When repairing the SRS system, use only genuine spare parts.
- Do not apply voltage to the terminals of SRS components unless instructed to do so.
- Special fasteners are used to secure the airbags - strictly observe the tightening torques. It is prohibited to use other fasteners.
- When replacing SRS system components, replace the fasteners with new ones.
- When replacing the SRS electronic unit (DCU), make sure it is installed correctly. There should be no gap between the electronic unit (DCU) and its mounting bracket. Incorrect installation of the SRS electronic unit (DCU) may cause the system to malfunction.
CAUTION: When installing the side curtain airbag, make sure that its fasteners are securely fastened and do not interfere with the airbag deployment. When installing the A-pillar trim and the roof trim, make sure that they do not interfere with the airbag deployment.
CAUTION: SRS system components must be free of oil, grease, cleaning agents or water.
CAUTION: Torque wrenches should be checked regularly to ensure that all fasteners are properly tightened.
NOTE: After the seat belt pretensioners have deployed, the seat belts may be used as normal seat belts without pretensioners. In this case, replace the belts as soon as possible to restore the SRS system to its designed function.
NOTE: If replacement of SRS components is required, the part number and bar code of the new part must be recorded.
Precautions when checking SRS system components
Airbags deploy at relatively low current levels, so always follow these instructions:
WARNING: When checking SRS components, do not use multimeters or other multi-purpose equipment - this may cause the airbags to deploy. Use only the special diagnostic tool Testbook/T4 to diagnose the system.

WARNING: Do not use multi-purpose diagnostic equipment to troubleshoot SRS harnesses that are not disconnected from the system components, as this may result in airbag deployment and injury.
Transportation and storage
When handling SRS system components, follow the instructions below.
WARNING: Supplementary storage requirements for SRS components may be required. This may require approval from local authorities. SRS components require careful handling and present an increased risk if handling and storage instructions are not followed. Always follow these instructions:

- Do not throw SRS components. The SRS electronic unit requires particularly careful handling. The airbags and seat belt pretensioners may deploy in the event of a severe impact.
- Do not wrap your hands around the airbags. When transporting airbags, hold them by the cover, with the cover in the highest position and the base facing away from your body.
- Do not transport airbags or seat belt pretensioners in the passenger compartment of the vehicle. When transporting in a vehicle, place airbags and seat belt pretensioners in the trunk.
WARNING: Do not attach any objects to the airbag cover or interior upholstery covering the airbags. Do not place any objects on the top of the airbags.
WARNING: System components should be stored in a cool, dry and safe area.
CAUTION: Do not apply lubricants or cleaning agents to the seat belt pretensioners. This may damage the pretensioners.

WARNING: Store air bags face up. If an air bag is stored face down, accidental deployment could cause serious injury.
WARNING: Airbags and seat belt pretensioners are classified as explosives. For overnight or longer storage, they must be placed in a steel safe that has the required level of protection and is registered with the local authorities.
WARNING: Store airbags or seat belt pretensioners only in a specially designated place. If there is no specially equipped storage place, they should be stored in a closed volume of the car (trunk). The production manager must be informed about this.
CAUTION: Failure to store properly may damage the airbags and render them unusable. If there is reason to believe that the airbag is faulty, it must be replaced. To activate and dispose of the airbag, refer to the relevant section of the Manual.
WARNING: Store the side curtain airbag in its original packaging until ready to install in the vehicle. Store the removed side curtain airbag in the empty packaging.
WARNING: When transporting the side curtain airbag, hold it by the inflator housing, DO NOT hold it by the airbag. Do not wrap your fingers around the inflator when carrying. Do not sling the airbag over your shoulder or around your neck.

Carry the seat belt pretensioners by the piston tube, with the open end of the tube facing the ground and the opposite end of the tube away from your body. Do not cover the open end of the piston tube. DO NOT hold the seat belt pretensioners by the cable or the mounting bracket. Do not point the piston tube toward your body or toward other people.
SRS Electrical Harnesses and Connectors

When working with SRS wiring harnesses, follow these instructions:
- Do not modify, extend, or repair the SRS harness in any way.
- Avoid installing potential sources of electromagnetic interference (mobile phone, radio or entertainment equipment) in close proximity to the SRS harnesses. Consult a specialist if such equipment needs to be installed.
NOTE: Wires in the SRS harnesses can be identified by the yellow color of the outer insulation. (sometimes black insulation with a yellow stripe is used).


WARNING: After installation, always check that the SRS harnesses are routed correctly. Avoid pinching or damaging the SRS harnesses during installation. Do not allow connectors to hang freely or install SRS components without securing them to the vehicle body. There should be no friction points on moving vehicle body parts after installation.
Inspecting the side impact sensor
After any side impact of the body, it is necessary to inspect both side impact sensors. The side impact sensor must be replaced if there are signs of damage or deformation of the fasteners.

Check that the side impact sensor is installed correctly. There should be no gap between the mounting bracket and the sensor. To secure the sensor, use either the mounting bolts included with the new sensor or new mounting bolts ordered separately.
CAUTION: When performing body repair or painting work in the immediate vicinity of impact sensors, exercise extreme caution. Avoid direct contact between impact sensors and connecting harnesses with heat guns, welding equipment, and painting equipment. When replacing vehicle components, do not damage the sensor or wiring harnesses.
CAUTION: Checking or installing the rotary contactor must be done strictly according to the instructions given in the "SRS Repair" section. To ensure reliable operation of the system, all operations must be carried out in strict accordance with all safety and installation requirements. Observe the following precautions:
- After removing the rotary contactor from the vehicle, do not rotate or open it.
- After removing the rotary contactor from the vehicle, do not turn the vehicle's steering wheels.
- Install and remove the rotary contactor only in the center position. The front wheels must be in the straight-ahead position. Detailed instructions are provided in the "SRS System Repair" section.
- When installing a new rotary contactor, make sure that the rotary contactor lock is not broken.; rotary contacts with a broken locking mechanism must not be installed on a vehicle.
Signs indicating the location of airbags on a vehicle
Airbag location labels are installed in several places in the vehicle. SRS components have additional labels. (warning labels), which indicate precautions for handling them. SRS system components with labels: air bags, impact sensors and seat belt pretensioners.
WARNING: Do not perform any work on the SRS system until you have read the relevant sections of this Manual.
NOTE: The following information refers to possible locations and contents of warning labels. The exact location and contents of labels vary depending on the model year of the vehicle, the country of export, and applicable laws.

If the airbag needs to be replaced, the part number should be recorded using the Land Rover designation.
Be careful when working with system components, and follow the instructions provided when replacing components.; do not open or attempt to repair any removed components.
The system components contain compressed gas and flammable materials. To avoid injury, follow these rules:
- Do not disassemble, incinerate, or expose to electricity (e.g., by "ringing" with a tester) non-activated airbags.
- Do not store system components in locations where temperatures exceed 93°C (200°F).
- It is prohibited to install removed components on other vehicles.
- Do not place any foreign objects between the airbag and its cover or inside the airbag module.
- Servicing or disposal of components must be carried out in accordance with the instructions provided.

Driver's airbag label

Passenger Airbag Label
The most important system components have a plate (tag) with the part number or bar code applied to it. If the airbag needs to be replaced, its number should be written off according to the Land Rover designation.

Side curtain airbag label
The label (tag) on the airbag contains a warning about the need to read the relevant sections of the Manual before working on the SRS system components.
Warning: For proper operation of airbags, only the decorative panels provided by the design should be installed. Do not re-install the decorative panels covering the SRS system cushions if they show signs of damage. If they are damaged, new decorative panels must be installed.
Towing - SRS components did not deploy
When towing the vehicle, it is unlikely that the SRS components will deploy. However, as a precaution, turn off the ignition and disconnect both battery cables. The negative cable should be disconnected first.
Towing - SRS components deployed
If the driver's airbag has deployed, towing using the partial loading method is permitted. (the front axle rests on the body of the tractor vehicle). However, as a precaution, turn off the ignition and disconnect both battery cables. The negative cable is disconnected first.
Activation of airbags and seat belt pretensioners
When activating the SRS components, the safety rules and sequence of actions must be strictly observed. Only personnel who have undergone the necessary training are allowed to perform work on activating the SRS components. Strictly observe the following safety rules:
- Use only special equipment for activation.
- Activation of airbags and seat belt pretensioners should only be carried out in well-ventilated areas specially designed for this purpose.
- Before activation, make sure that the airbags and seat belt pretensioners are not damaged.
- Notify the appropriate authorities of your intention to activate the airbags or seat belt pretensioners.
- When the SRS components are activated, no one should be within 15 meters (45 feet) of the epicenter.
- The activation unit must be connected according to the instructions in the SRS section of this manual. The activation unit MUST NOT be connected to the battery until it is connected to the air bag connector.
- When activating the seat belt pretensioners, the pretensioner must be securely attached to the seat frame.
- When removing deployed air bags or pretensioners, wear protective clothing. Wear gloves when handling deployed components. After removing from the vehicle, seal the deployed component in a plastic bag.
- If any SRS component has deployed, all SRS components must be replaced. DO NOT reuse SRS components that have been removed from the vehicle.
- Do not lean on the airbag while connecting the activation console wires to its connectors.
If the vehicle is to be recycled, the installed airbags and seat belt pretensioners must be activated. In this case, the airbags can be activated directly on the vehicle. Before activating, make sure that the airbag is securely fastened in place. Activating the driver's airbag directly on the vehicle may damage the steering wheel. If the vehicle is not intended for recycling, the airbag must be removed from the vehicle before it can be activated.
Warning: During activation, parts of the airbag are heated to high temperatures, which can cause burns. After activating the airbag, it should be at least 30 minutes before you can touch the parts of the airbag.
