We have provided additional precautions in the relevant sections of the "Manual". All instructions must be read before attempting to repair the system.
The air conditioning system uses HFC-134a (fluorinated hydrocarbon) refrigerant R134a. Always follow the instructions below.
WARNING: Only personnel familiar with the system and the special equipment for filling and servicing it are allowed to service the air conditioning system. All operations must be carried out in well-ventilated areas, away from open flames.
CAUTION: Do not expose the refrigerant container to open flames or place the container near heating devices. Do not heat the refrigerant container to temperatures above 50°C. Do not leave the refrigerant container with the lid open. Do not transport the refrigerant container unless it is secured, especially in the trunk of a car.
WARNING: Do not smoke or weld in areas where R134a refrigerant is being handled. Inhaling refrigerant vapors may cause dizziness, disorientation, loss of coordination, drug intoxication, seasickness, and vomiting. R134a refrigerant is colorless and odorless. Do not handle refrigerant in enclosed spaces or where it or its vapors may come into contact with open flames or hot metal. R134a is not flammable, but may form an extremely toxic gas.
CAUTION: Do not allow liquids other than R134a or special compressor oil to enter the air conditioning system. A sudden fire may occur.
WARNING: Refrigerant R134a is a potentially hazardous liquid and can cause serious injury if handled carelessly. When working with the air conditioning system, wear special protective clothing: heat-resistant gloves, face protection, rubber boots and a rubberized apron or special gown.
CAUTION: Due to its low boiling point, R134a refrigerant must be handled with extreme caution. If R134a refrigerant comes into contact with unprotected skin, it will cause immediate frostbite. Refrigerant recovery cylinders may also cause frostbite when refrigerant is being recovered.
CAUTION: Do not disconnect any air conditioner hoses until the system is completely drained. Do not disconnect any air conditioner lines unless you are qualified and trained to do so. Air conditioner refrigerant can cause blindness if it comes into contact with your eyes.
CAUTION: Before reusing refrigerant, it must be purified to ensure that the refrigerant is of sufficient purity for safe operation of the air conditioning system.
The preparation of refrigerant for reuse must be performed in equipment certified by Underwriter Laboratory Inc. to meet the requirements of SAE J1991. If the equipment used does not meet this requirement, there is no guarantee that the refrigerant will be purified to the required degree of purity.
The R134a refrigerant air conditioning service station must not be used to service air conditioning systems that use other refrigerants.
R134a refrigerant, which is commercially available and intended for home use, is not suitable for use in a car air conditioning system.
