Filling and bleeding the power steering system (Defender 2007+)

General procedures

1. Make sure that the working fluid level is at the maximum mark.

2. Warm up the engine to normal operating temperature.

3. Recheck and, if necessary, add working fluid to the reservoir.

NOTE: Maintain the maximum fluid level in the reservoir. Do not increase engine speed or move the steering wheel.

With the engine idling, loosen the air bleed screw. When the working fluid starts to come out through the air bleed screw, tighten the screw again.



5. Check the working fluid level.

6. Wipe off the working fluid near the air bleed screw.

7. Check the hose connections, pump and steering housing for leaks by holding the steering wheel in both extreme positions.

CAUTION: Do not maintain this pressure for more than 30 seconds within a minute to avoid overheating the hydraulic fluid and damaging the seals.

8. Perform a road test.

9. Check and top up the working fluid.
