Bleeding the power steering system (Discovery 1)

1. Add fluid to the pump reservoir up to the upper mark on the dipstick.

2. Warm up the engine to operating temperature.

3. Recheck the fluid level in the reservoir.

Note: when performing steps 4–6, maintain the maximum liquid level. Do not rev the engine or turn the steering wheel.

4. Let the engine idle and loosen the steering gear drain screw. As soon as liquid starts to flow from the screw, tighten the screw.

5. Recheck the fluid level in the reservoir.

6. Wipe up any spilled liquid around the drain screw.

7. Check for fluid leaks when the wheels are in both stops.

Caution: Do not hold the wheels in the stop for more than 30 seconds in one minute to avoid overheating the seals.

8. Conduct a road test.
