Description
Power steering with a compensating unit on the steering cardan shaft, which removes collision energy. Some models are equipped with an airbag on the steering wheel. The steering column is connected to the steering gear by a cardan shaft with a length compensator. The lever system is equipped with a shock absorber that reduces kickback on the steering wheel.

Operation of the steering gear valve
The valve consists of a worm (1), a sleeve (2), an input shaft (4) and a torsion bar (5).
The valve sleeve is secured inside the worm (2) with a screw (3). Drillings are made in the sleeve for the passage of fluid. The input shaft is aligned with the steering column shaft. The torsion bar is secured with pins (6) on the worm and input shaft (on later models only on the input shaft). When no steering wheel turning force is required, the valve establishes equal fluid pressure A on both sides of the piston (9). The fluid returns to the reservoir through channel B.

When the steering wheel is turned, the torsion bar twists and the valve openings become unaligned, creating a difference in fluid pressure on the rack piston, thereby reducing the steering wheel turning force. At maximum steering wheel rotation, the fluid pressure is also at its maximum. At the same time, the temperature of the liquid rises sharply, so it is not recommended to keep the wheels at the minimum turning radius for more than 30 seconds in one minute.
When the power steering fails, the steering mechanism is turned by means of a splined connection (7).
