Power steering pump (V8i engine) (Discovery 1)

Removal



Attention: the pump cannot be repaired and must be replaced with a new one.


1. Disconnect the battery.

2. Remove the accessory drive belt.

3. Remove the engine protection.

4. Remove the fan together with the viscous coupling.

5. Place a container under the pump to collect the liquid.

6. Holding the pump pulley with a 9 mm Allen key, unscrew the three pulley mounting bolts and remove the pulley.

7. Disconnect the supply hose from the pump.

8. Disconnect the high pressure hose from the pump.

Note: Cap hoses and fittings.


9. Disconnect the high-voltage wires from the clips.

10. Remove the three power steering pump mounting bolts, remove the pump and engine lifting hook.



Further operations should be carried out as necessary



11. Unscrew the 5 front support bolts.

12. Install the support, tightening torque of the bolts 9 Nm.

Installation



13. Install the pump and engine lifting hook. Tighten the mounting bolts to 35 Nm.

14. Connect the high pressure hose. Tighten the mounting nut to 20 Nm.

15. Connect the supply hose.

16. Apply Loctite 242 adhesive to the threads of the pump pulley mounting bolts. Install the pulley and tighten the bolts to a torque of 10 N·m.

17. Reinstall the removed parts.

18. Bleed the steering system.
