General procedures
NOTE: If the steering is difficult or the power steering system is contaminated, the system flushing procedure must be performed as detailed below. If any components have been replaced in the power steering system, the entire procedure below must be performed.
NOTE: Illustrations may differ in some details, but the fundamental points are completely true.
1. Remove the power steering fluid reservoir cap.
2. Using a suitable syringe, remove the working fluid from the power steering reservoir.
3.
CAUTION: Liquid leakage may occur.
NOTE: Mark the position of the clamp.
Disconnect the power steering fluid reservoir.
- Disconnect, but do not remove, the power steering fluid reservoir.
- Disconnect the power steering return hose from the power steering reservoir.
- If the return hose has a quick disconnect coupling, disconnect the power steering fluid return hose by removing the clamp.

4.
CAUTION: Liquid leakage may occur.
NOTE: Plug all holes. Use new plugs.
Using a suitable plug, plug the power steering fluid reservoir return line.

5.
CAUTION: Liquid leakage may occur.
NOTE: Make sure the long tube is not bent or twisted and is properly secured with clamps.
Connect a suitable tube to the power steering return hose to drain the fluid.

6.
NOTE: A suitable funnel must have a capacity of 4 liters and an O-ring seal
NOTE: A suitable funnel must have a secure seal where it meets the power steering reservoir to prevent fluid leakage.
Place a suitable funnel over the power steering fluid reservoir.

7.
WARNING: Do not work on a vehicle supported solely by a jack. Always place reliable supports under the vehicle.
Raise the vehicle and support it on jack stands until the wheels are just off the floor.
8.
Warnings:
- Steps 8 and 9 should be performed within 2 to 3 seconds of each other. Failure to do so may result in damage to the power steering.
- Liquid leakage may occur.
Using a suitable funnel, add the recommended power steering fluid to the system. The fluid level should be maintained at 2/3 of the way up the funnel.
9.
Warnings:
- Liquid leakage may occur.
- Do not allow the power steering fluid level in the reservoir to drop below the minimum mark. Failure to do so may result in damage to the power steering.
- After 4 liters of working fluid have been poured into the power steering reservoir, the engine should be turned off.
Flush the power steering system.
- Start the engine
- With the help of a partner, turn the steering wheel from one extreme position to the other 3 times at intervals of approximately 5 seconds.
- Continue flushing the power steering until 4 liters of working fluid enters the power steering reservoir. This takes about 30 seconds.

10.
CAUTION: Liquid leakage may occur.
Remove the funnel.

11.
CAUTION: Liquid leakage may occur.
Disconnect the tube from the power steering return hose.

12.
CAUTION: Liquid leakage may occur.
NOTE: Mark the position of the clamp.
If the return hose has a quick-release coupling, connect the power steering fluid return hose by installing the clamp.
13. Install the new power steering fluid reservoir.
