Operating materials posing a health hazard


The design and operation of modern vehicles use many liquids and other materials that, if handled improperly, pose a health hazard to service personnel and the environment.

WARNING: Operating fluids and other materials used in modern cars are dangerous and toxic. They must not be ingested. Avoid contact with skin. Such fluids and materials include: acid for preparing electrolyte, low-freezing liquids, asbestos-containing materials, brake fluid, fuels, windshield washer fluid, lubricants, coolants and various adhesives.


Carefully read the instructions for handling this composition or substance. Follow the requirements therein without fail. Remember that the instructions are made for your health and safety. Never disregard the instructions.


CAUTION: Many of the working fluids used in the vehicle, such as coolant, brake fluid, and hydraulic system working fluid, are flammable. When filling working fluids, be careful not to allow splashing, which can lead to a fire. If liquid spills occur, clean this area thoroughly before starting the engine.


Synthetic rubber


O-rings, sealing cuffs, hoses, flexible pipes and other similar parts are made of a synthetic material called fluoroelastomer.

Under normal operating conditions, such components do not pose a health hazard. However, when overheated or exposed to flame, they lose their original properties and form highly active hydrofluoric acid, which causes severe burns when it comes into contact with the skin.



If such contact occurred, then:
  • Immediately remove clothing that has been in contact with the acid.
  • For 15-60 minutes, rinse the damaged areas of the skin with plenty of cold or lime water.
  • Seek medical attention immediately.

If a component made of this material has been exposed to flame or high temperature, wear protective clothing and take precautions when handling it (seamless rubber gloves and a protective apron are suitable). Immediately decontaminate and dispose of gloves after completing the work.

Lubricating oils


CAUTION: Avoid prolonged contact of your skin with used motor oil. Used motor oil contains harmful substances that can cause skin cancer or other serious skin diseases.


CAUTION: Avoid prolonged contact of the skin of your hands with mineral oils and working fluid. Mineral working fluid washes away the natural oils from the skin, which leads to dry skin, irritation and dermatitis.
