CAUTION: The inspection or repair of the rotary contactor must be carried out in strict accordance with the instructions given in the section "Repairing the SRS System". For reliable operation of the system, all work must be carried out in strict accordance with all safety and installation requirements. Observe the following precautions:
- Do not install a rotary contactor if you suspect it is faulty.
- Do not attempt to service, modify or repair the rotary contactor.
- Do not attempt to cut, splice, or modify the wires connected to the rotary contactor.
- Always ensure that the rotary contactor connectors are correctly oriented and securely fastened.
- Before working with the rotary contactor, make sure the battery is disconnected.
- After removing the rotary contactor from the vehicle, do not rotate or open it.
- After removing the rotary contactor from the vehicle, do not turn the vehicle's steering wheels.
- Install and remove the rotary contactor only in the center position. The front wheels must be in the straight-ahead position. Detailed instructions are provided in the "SRS System Repair" section.
- When installing a new rotary contactor, make sure that the rotary contactor lock is not broken; rotary contacts with a broken locking mechanism must not be installed on a vehicle.
