A collision that did not deploy the airbags or pretensioners
Check the condition of the load-bearing elements of the body in the impact zone. Pay special attention to the bumper frame, the condition of the spars, deformable elements and brackets.
Collision that deployed airbags or seat belt pretensioners
The procedure for inspecting and replacing SRS components depends on the type and severity of the collision. The above instructions contain the minimum amount of technical actions that should be done as a result of the operation of certain components of the system.
Deployment of the frontal airbag / seat belt pretensioner (driver and front passenger)
If the front airbags and/or pretensioners have been deployed as a result of a frontal, front corner or side impact, the following parts must be replaced.
- Driver front airbag module
- Front Passenger Airbag Module (if it is installed)
- SRS cables
- Electronic unit of the SRS system (DCU)
- Rotary contactor
- Front seat belt pretensioners
In addition, check the condition and, if a malfunction is found, replace the following components:
- Front seat belt and buckle (attachment point, inertial coil, etc.)
- Decorative trim for the front panel next to the front passenger airbag (if the pillow is installed)
- Steering wheel (if damage is visible)
- Front seat frame and head restraints (if damage is found to the seat frame and headrest cushion)
- Steering column - if the adjustments are violated or there are signs of damage
- Adjusting device for the height of the attachment of the shoulder belt loop on the BC pillars of the body (only on 5-door model)
- Rear seat belt anchors (inertial coils, lock plates, attachment points to the body and buckle lock action)
Car rear impact
If the seat belt pretensioners deployed during a rear impact, the following components should be replaced:
- Front seat belt pretensioners
- Retractable front and rear seat belt reels deployed during impact
- Electronic unit of the SRS system (DCU)
In addition, check the condition and, if necessary, replace the following components:
- Front seat frames
- Front seat belts and their locks (inertial coils, buckles, pads of locks, attachments to the body, hinges)
- Shoulder strap loop height adjusters (only on 5-door model)
- Rear seat belt anchors (inertia coils, lock plates, attachment points to the body and buckle lock action)
Scheduled replacement of SRS system components
The materials used for airbags and seat belt pretensioners degrade over time. As a result, airbags and seat belt pretensioners need to be replaced periodically to keep the people in the car safe. The airbags, seat belt pretensioners and rotary contactor should be replaced at the recommended intervals.
