Dismantling
1. Put the car on a lift.
2. Remove the exhaust system.
EXHAUST MANIFOLD AND EXHAUST GAS SYSTEM: Td6 engine, REPAIR WORK, Exhaust system and system components suspension.
EXHAUST MANIFOLD AND EXHAUST GAS SYSTEM: V-8 engine, REPAIRS, Exhaust system and system components suspension.
3. Remove the 8 nuts securing the central heat shield and remove the shield.
4. Remove the 8 hex head screws securing the fuel tank heat shield and remove the shield.
5. Put mounting marks on the flanges of the cardan shaft and the shank of the final drive for subsequent assembly.
6. Remove the 6 nuts and bolts securing the propeller shaft to the final drive tail flange.
7. Turn out two nuts of fastening of an intermediate support of the propeller shaft, lower the propeller shaft, separate the flange of the propeller shaft from the shank flange, then temporarily install the intermediate support and fix it with nuts.
8. Raise the rear of the vehicle and jack it up.
WARNING: Do not work under a vehicle raised only on a jack or lift. Always install safety props.
9. Remove rear wheels.
10. Disconnect the ventilation hose from the final drive housing.
11. Drain the oil from the final drive housing.
MAIN GEAR AND DIFFERENTIAL, ADJUSTMENTS, Rear final drive and differential housing - oil drain and fill.
12. Mark the driveshaft and differential output flanges with mounting marks for reassembly.
13. Turn out 6 screws of fastening of a power shaft to a flange of an output shaft of differential and remove three plates under bolts. Discard the bolts.
14. Install the jack, resting it on the lower suspension arm.
15. Remove the nut and bolt securing the lower arm to the wheel bearing support.
16. Remove the jack from under the lower suspension arm.
17. Separate the lower arm from the wheel bearing support and separate the drive shaft from the differential output shaft flange.
18. Repeat the operation for the wheel on the other side.
19. Install the jack, resting it on the final drive housing.
20. Remove and discard the 2 screws and 1 bolt and nut securing the final drive housing to the subframe. Remove final drive with differential assembly.
Assembly
1. Install a jack and raise the final drive with differential assembly to the desired position.
2. Install new screws and a bolt with a nut securing the final drive housing to the subframe and tighten the two front screws with a torque of 100 N «m, and a nut with a bolt - with a moment of 165 Nm.
3. Wipe the driveshaft and differential output flanges.
4. Connect the drive shaft to the differential.
5. Wipe the lower arm and the mating surface of the wheel bearing support.
6. Align the wheel bearing support with the lower suspension arm, insert the mounting bolt, screw and lightly tighten the nut.
7. Wipe the screw plates, install the plates, tighten the new screws securing the drive shaft flange to the differential output shaft flange and tighten them to 40 Nm, then tighten them another 60°.
8. Repeat the operation for the wheel on the other side.
9. Attach a ventilating hose to a case of the main transfer.
10. Reinstall the wheels and tighten the nuts to 140 Nm.
11. Remove props and lower the car.
12. Tighten the screws securing the lower suspension arms to the wheel bearing supports with a torque of 250 Nm.
13. Wipe the mating surfaces of the driveshaft flanges and final drive shank.
14. Remove the nuts securing the propeller shaft intermediate support, attach the propeller shaft to the final drive shank flange and install the intermediate support in place. Tighten the intermediate support mounting nuts, but do not fully tighten them at this stage.
15. Wrap nuts of fastening of a cardan shaft to a flange of a tail end of the main transfer and tighten them with the moment of 70 Нм.
16. Tighten nuts of fastening of an intermediate support of a cardan shaft with the moment of 21 Нм.
17. Install the fuel tank heat shield and tighten the screws securing it.
18. Install the central heat shield and tighten its nuts.
19. Fill oil into the final drive housing to the required level.
MAIN GEAR AND DIFFERENTIAL, ADJUSTMENTS, Rear final drive and differential housing - oil drain and fill.
20. Reinstall the exhaust system.
