Engine Control Module (ECM) — Removal and Installation (Defender 2007+)

Removal

CAUTION: When a new Engine Control Module (ECM) is fitted, a Land Rover approved diagnostic system must be connected to the vehicle and the ECM replacement procedures must be followed. This will allow the vehicle configuration to be loaded into the new ECM.

1. Disconnect the ground wire from the battery.

For more information, refer to the chapter: Disconnecting and connecting the battery (414-01 Battery, Battery Mounting and Cables, General Procedures).

2. Remove the engine control module (ECM) protective bracket. Remove the bolt.



3. Disconnect the 3 electrical connectors.

4. Remove the 2 ECM nuts.





5. Remove the ECM.

Installation

1. Install the elements in place in the reverse order. Tighten (tightening torque 10 Nm).

CAUTION: Make sure that the fuel pump replacement and control adjustment values are determined after loading.

Using the Land Rover approved diagnostic system, configure the new ECM.
