The 2.0 kW starter is made according to the traditional scheme with a coaxial arrangement of the electric motor shaft and the drive gear and an upper arrangement of the traction relay. The starter type is a series-excited electric motor with constant rotor engagement, with an overrunning clutch and a built-in traction relay electromagnet. In the front part of the starter there is a labyrinth that ensures control of the water supply, sealing and draining. The solenoid is hermetically sealed to prevent water from getting inside and to avoid damage to the crankshaft due to high humidity.
Power is supplied to the starter solenoid relay by the engine control module (ECM) when the ignition key is turned to the starting position. When a request to start the engine is received, the ECM checks the correctness of the ignition key code and only then gives permission to crank the crankshaft. Power to the starter comes via the power bus directly from the positive post of the battery. The other end of the wire is connected to the copper threaded stud of the solenoid relay and secured with a nut.
The starter is located in the rear left part of the cylinder block and protrudes into the groove of the flywheel housing flange, which allows engagement with the toothed ring. The electric motor is attached to the cylinder block with two bolts.
