Removal


1. Remove the gearbox.

For more information, refer to the chapter: Gearbox (308-03 Manual transmission/gearbox in block with driving axle, Removal).

2.
CAUTION: Make sure the surface surrounding the element is clean.


Assemble the special tool.

CAUTION: Make sure the surface surrounding the element is clean.


Using the special tools, remove the shift fork rod retainer.

Installation


1.
NOTE: If the transmission jams while in gear, carefully move the selector mechanism using a suitable flat-blade screwdriver.


Make sure all shift fork rods are aligned as shown and the shifter clutch can move freely.

CAUTION: Make sure the surface surrounding the element is clean.


NOTE: If necessary, the new shift fork rod retainer must be installed flush with the transmission housing.


Using a suitable hammer and soft drift, install the shift fork rod retainer.

3. Install the gearbox.
