Draining and filling the transfer case transmission fluid (Defender 2007+)

General procedures

1.

WARNING: Never work on a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always support the vehicle with special stands.

Raise and support the vehicle.

2. Install the liquid collection tank.

3.

NOTE: Clean the area around the transfer case fluid fill/check plug.

Remove the transfer case filler plug to vent it and allow the working fluid to drain.



4.

NOTE: Clean the area around the transfer case drain plug.

Remove the drain plug from the transfer case.



5. Let the liquid drain.

6. Screw in the transfer case drain plug and remove all remaining oil from the surrounding surface. Tighten (tightening torque 30 Nm).

WARNING: The transfer case oil filler cap must not be used as a control cap for the transfer case oil level. Failure to follow these instructions may result in damage to the vehicle.

Fill the transfer case with the recommended fluid.

8. Screw in the transfer case filler plug and remove all remaining oil from the surrounding surface. Tighten (tightening torque 30 Nm).



9. Remove the container.
