Transfer case lower cover — removal and installation (Defender 2007+)

Removal


1. Raise the car on a lift.

2. Drain the oil from the transfer case.

For more information, please refer to the chapter: Transfer Case Draining and Filling (308-07 Transfer Case -2.4L Diesel, General Procedures).

3. Unscrew the 10 bolts securing the lower cover to the transfer case and remove the cover.

Installation


1. Clean the lower cover and mating surface on the transfer case.

2. Clean the bolt threads.

3. Apply sealant (part number STC 50552) to the bolt threads.

4. Apply sealant (part number STC 4600) to the mating surface of the lower cover.

5. Install the bottom cover and tighten the bolts to 25 Nm.

6. Fill the transfer case with oil.

7. Lower the car on the lift.
