Transfer case rear cover — removal and installation (Defender 2007+)

Removal

1. Raise the vehicle on a 4-post lift.

2. Mark the position of the rear cover relative to the bearing housing for correct subsequent assembly.

3. After marking the installation position of the stud and the wiring harness clamp bracket, unscrew the 5 bolts and the stud securing the rear cover.



4. Remove the wiring harness clamp bracket.

5. Remove the back cover.

Installation

1. Clean the back cover and mating surface.

2. Apply sealant (part number STC 4600) to the mating surface of the rear cover.

3. Align the alignment marks and install the back cover.

4. Clean the rear cover bolts and apply sealant #STC 50552 to the bolt threads and stud nut.

5. Install the clamp bracket, install the stud and bolts, tighten in a cross sequence to 25 Nm.

6. Check/top up the transfer case oil.

7. Lower the vehicle.
