Differential box 90 (Defender 2007+)

1. Using a suitable container, drain the oil from the axle.

2. Mark the differential and driveshaft flanges to facilitate assembly.

3. Remove the four bolts and disconnect the driveshaft from the differential. Move it aside and tie it down.

4. Remove the 5 outer hub bolts and pull the axle shafts out enough to disconnect them from the differential.

5. Unscrew the 10 nuts securing the differential to the axle housing.

6. Remove the differential.

NOTE: The differential can only be serviced as an assembly with the mating pinion. Telephone Land Rover Technical Services for advice.


Clean the mating surfaces and apply a bead of sealant, part number STC 3811, to the axle housing.

8. Support the differential and place it on the axle housing.

9. Secure with self-locking nuts and tighten to 40 Nm.

10. Align the marks on the flanges and connect the propeller shaft to the differential. Tighten the bolts to 48 Nm.

11. Install the half shafts using new outer hub gaskets. Tighten the bolts to 65 Nm.

12. Fill the axle with approved oil.
