NOTE: This procedure covers the removal and installation of the stub shaft and axle oil seal.


1. Remove the hub assembly.

For more information, see chapter: Wheel Bearing and Wheel Hub - Vehicles Built Up To: 01/1999, 90 (204-02 Rear Suspension, Removal and Installation) Wheel bearing and wheel hub (204-02 Rear suspension, Removal and installation).

2. Unscrew the 6 bolts securing the short shaft to the drive axle housing. Remove the mudguard.

3. Remove the short axle shaft and gasket.

4. Remove and discard the oil seal.

Installation


1. Lubricate the new seal with EP90 oil. Install the seal with the sealing lip facing outwards using tool LRT -51-004. Insert the seal into the housing flush with the rear surface of the short axle shaft.

2. Install the new gasket, short shaft and mudguard. Screw in the bolts and tighten them to 65 Nm.



3. Install the hub assembly.
