Thermostat — removal and installation (Defender 2007+)

Removal


1. Disconnect the ground wire from the battery.

For more information, refer to the chapter: Disconnecting and connecting the battery (414-01 Battery, Battery Mounting and Cables, General Procedures).

2. Drain the fluid from the cooling system.

For more information, refer to the chapter: Draining/filling coolant and bleeding air from the cooling system (303-03 Engine Cooling - ID4 2.4L Diesel Engine, General Procedures).

3. Remove the upper cooling fan shroud. Release the 6 clips.

4. Disconnect the power steering reservoir mount. Unscrew the 2 nuts.

4. Disconnect the power steering reservoir mount. Unscrew the 2 nuts.


5. Disconnect the charge air cooler outlet hose.

5. Disconnect the charge air cooler outlet hose.

NOTE: Cooling fan shroud removed for clarity.




Disconnect the upper hose that goes from the thermostat to the radiator. Release the clamp.

Disconnect the upper hose that goes from the thermostat to the radiator. Release the clamp.

NOTE: Cooling fan shroud removed for clarity.


Disconnect the inlet hose from the thermostat to the coolant pump. Release the clamp.

Disconnect the inlet hose from the thermostat to the coolant pump. Release the clamp.

NOTE: Cooling fan shroud removed for clarity.


Remove the thermostat.

Remove the thermostat.


Installation


1. Install the elements in place in the reverse order. Tighten (tightening torque 3 Nm).

2. Tighten (tightening torque 4 Nm).

2. Tighten (tightening torque 4 Nm).


3. Connect the ground wire to the battery.
