Joints and butt surfaces (Range Rover 3)

General remarks

During assembly, mating joints must be dry unless the condition of the joint surfaces during assembly is specifically specified.

• When assembling, install only the gaskets provided by the design.
• If the joints are sealed with sealant, apply a thin layer of it to the metal surfaces. Do not allow it to get inside oil holes, pipes and blind threaded holes.
• If the joint is sealed with a gasket and/or sealant, remove all traces of the old gasket and sealant before assembly. Do not use a tool that can damage the surfaces. Smooth out all burrs and scratches with an abrasive block soaked in oil. Do not allow dirt or traces of the old seal to get into the blind holes of the joint or into the housing.
• Before assembly, blow out all pipes, channels and recesses with compressed air.
