To remove any remaining old gasket, use a special spray and/or plastic scrapers.
CAUTION: DO NOT use sandpaper or metal scrapers for this purpose as they may damage the contact surfaces.
Many connections use a sealant instead of a gasket. In such cases, the sealant along with the part number should be mentioned in the description of the corresponding repair operation and in the sealant table.
CAUTION: Always remove old sealant before reassembling. Use plastic scrapers, approved solvents or a dry, lint-free cloth. DO NOT use emery cloth or metal scrapers for this purpose as they may damage the mating surfaces. Ensure that the mating surfaces are free of oil and grease as the sealant will not adhere well to a contaminated surface.
Avoid getting sealant into blind holes and oil passages.
