- Always ensure that the component being inspected is free of oil and grease.
- If it is necessary to measure the dimensions of a part in order to compare its dimensions with the permissible ones, then the appropriate measuring instrument (Johannson tiles, micrometers, dial indicators) should be used.
- Before use, make sure the measuring tool and accessories are calibrated.
- If the dimensions of a part are outside the maximum permissible values or the part shows signs of damage, it is subject to rejection.
- A part is considered suitable for reinstallation if its dimensions are within the maximum established tolerances and it shows no signs of damage.
- To measure clearance in plain bearings, use "Plastigauge" tape where necessary.
