General Precautions
A fire extinguisher must be available in the room where fuel is removed from the fuel tank or parts of the fuel system are removed (foam, carbon dioxide, gas or powder). Fuel storage areas must be equipped with fire extinguishers.
Make sure the appropriate warning signs are in place. Fuel must be stored and handled away from sources of ignition.
Used portable lamps must be fireproof; spilled fuel should be avoided on portable lamps.
It is not allowed to remove any components of the fuel systems if the car is on the inspection ditch.
Personnel authorized to work with fuel systems must receive special training.
Disconnect the battery before removing fuel from the tank or removing parts of the fuel system.
Draining the fuel tank
The removal of fuel from the tank must be carried out in accordance with the instructions given in section "Fuel system" this guide.
Never drain fuel from the fuel tank of a vehicle on an inspection ditch. Draining or removing fuel from the fuel tank should only be done in well ventilated areas.
As a precautionary measure, immediately after removing the fuel tank from the vehicle, affix a tag to it "CAREFULLY! FUEL VAPOR".
Fuel storage containers should be clearly marked with contents and located in a secure storage facility that meets the requirements of local authorities.
Some fuel lines are now equipped with quick connectors. If the connecting device is damaged, do not attempt to repair it, but replace the fuel line with the connecting device (devices) assembled.
Always fully loosen the clamps before disconnecting the fuel lines.
Fuel tank repair
Plastic fuel tanks cannot be repaired. If such a fuel tank is damaged, it should be replaced with a new one.
