Removing
1. Park the vehicle on a level surface, place wheel chocks under the wheels, and release the parking brake. As an alternative, raise the car on a flyover.
2. Disconnect the rear propeller shaft from the transmission output flange at the brake drum.
3. Loosen the parking brake drum adjusting bolt.
4. Remove the single screw securing the brake drum to the outlet flange.
5. Pull out the drum to expose the brake assembly.
6. Disconnect the upper and lower springs from the brake shoes, see J6337.

7. Clamp the convex washer with a pair of pliers, pry the washer out and rotate 90°.
8. Remove the bulge washer, along with the retaining spring and pin, from both shoes.
9. Pull the brake pads out of the adjusting guides, disconnect from the base plate and remove from the shield.
10. Check if the springs are suitable for further use. If new brake pads need to be installed, the springs should also be replaced.
Installation
1. Install the right brake shoe into the guide and attach the brake shoe and lever assembly to the backboard with the retaining pin, spring and bulge washer.
2. Install the left brake shoe in the guide and place the support plate between both brake shoes. Secure the left shoe with the retaining pin, spring and bulge washer.
3. Install the deflection springs on the brake shoes.
4. Install the brake drum. tighten screw (tightening torque 25 Nm).
5. Make sure the parking brake lever is released.
6. Screw in and tighten the adjusting bolt until the brake drum stops turning by hand.
7. Tighten the adjusting bolt (tightening torque 25 Nm), to make sure the brake drum is locked.
8. Loosen the adjusting bolt 1.5 turns to give the pads operating clearance. Make sure the brake drum can rotate freely.
9. Attach the cardan shaft to the output flange. Tighten fasteners (tightening torque 46 Nm).
10. Remove the wheel chocks and check the operation of the parking brake.
