Central switching unit
Central switching unit (CJB) is a unit located behind the control panel on the front passenger side bulkhead. The Central Switching Unit contains a set of fuses, relays and microprocessors that together control the power and operation of the vehicle's interior lighting and systems.
Interior lighting devices are controlled by the CJB unit in two operating modes: manual and automatic. In manual mode, the interior lighting is turned on and off using fixed and non-fixed switches located next to these lights, using the same switches, the lighting can be turned off completely. In automatic mode, the interior lighting devices are controlled by the CJB in accordance with the various input signals it receives.
Incoming Signals
The CJB uses the following input signals to control the interior lights:
- ignition switch
- Door Light Switches
- tailgate light switch
- Glove box light switch
- unlock signal
- Interior Light Switches
- Local Light Switches
- Battery Save Relay
- Vanity mirror light switches
Electrical circuit protection
The central switching unit provides protection for the circuits of all interior lighting devices. The circuits of the following lighting fixtures are protected by unipolar transistors (FET):
- Tailgate lights
- Footwell lights
- Ring light on the ignition switch
- Lanterns for lighting the space around the door
The interior lights listed below are protected by a 1P fuse (10 A) in the CJB block:
- Glove box light
- Local lighting lanterns
- Vanity mirror lights
Interior lighting off timer
A timer located in the CJB keeps the interior lights on for approximately 60 seconds after the ignition is turned off or after the vehicle is unlocked. The specified turn-off delay applies to the lights listed below:
- Interior lighting lamps
- Footwell lights
- Tailgate lights
- Lanterns for lighting the space around the door
- Ring light on the ignition switch
The timer operation is activated if the CJB block receives one of the following signals:
- The CJB unit receives the signal to unlock the locks from the remote control
- The ignition key is turned from position III (starter), or II (ignition) to position I (auxiliary equipment) or to position 0 (turned off).
The timer is canceled if the CJB receives one of the following signals:
- CJB unit receives lock signal from remote control
- Ignition key turns from position 0 (turned off) or I (auxiliary equipment) to position II (ignition) or III (starter).
- CJB unit receives door open signal (even if the door then closes)
Personal settings for the interior lighting off timer
The driver can adjust the interior light turn-off delay time to suit their own preferences or with the help of an Authorized Land Rover Dealer. In addition to the default delay period of 60 seconds, the following options are available: override off delay, 10 seconds, 20 seconds, 40 seconds, 120 seconds, and 240 seconds.
To access the personal settings menu when the vehicle is stationary and the ignition key is in any position, press the on-board computer button (located on the end of the lever of the left multifunction switch on the steering column). Menu options can be «scroll through» using the search keys on the audio remote control, which is located on the steering wheel. The menu options are shown in the information center display. Locate the headlight delay option and change how long the headlights stay on using the audio search switches located on the steering wheel. Confirm your choice by pressing the on-board computer button. For more information, please refer to the Information and Message Center (413-08)
Power saving function
The energy-saving function automatically turns off the interior lighting after 15 minutes. Shutdown mode is described in the next section «Interior lighting».
The power saving function is in addition to the interior lighting delay function and is designed to prevent battery drain if any light is accidentally left on, such as the glove box lid is left open.
When the ignition key is moved from position II (ignition on) or from position I (auxiliary equipment) to position 0 (ignition off), the CJB includes a timer that will automatically turn off all interior lights after 15 minutes.
After the timer has expired and the interior lighting has completely turned off, the power saving function can be canceled and the interior lighting can only be turned on when one of the following events occurs. The timer can be restarted immediately after the CJB receives one of the following signals:
- Ignition switch set to position I (auxiliary equipment), II (ignition on) or III (starter)
- One of the doors opens, including the tailgate
- Lock request received
- Front interior light switch pressed
Mode of delivery to the consumer
To minimize the discharge of the battery, the manufacturer includes a delivery mode on the vehicle to the consumer. In this mode, it is possible to turn off all secondary consumers, including interior lighting devices. The company dealer disables the delivery to the consumer mode during the pre-delivery preparation process, for which the T4 diagnostic tool is used.
Collision lighting
Upon receiving a collision signal from the SRS controller, the CJB turns on the interior lights when the vehicle speed drops below 5 km/h. The lights are then switched off either manually or after the collision signal is interrupted. For more information refer to Air Bag and Safety Belt Pretensioner Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) (501-20B)
Interior lighting
Interior lighting is switched on to ensure convenient entry and exit of the driver and passengers at night without the use of manual lighting controls.
NOTE: Interior lighting also includes the approach lights located in the outside rear view mirrors.
When the interior lighting system turns on the lights, the central switching unit brings them to full glow gradually over a period of 1.3 seconds.
When the interior lighting system turns off the lights after the turn-off delay period has elapsed, the central switching unit will gradually cut off the power supply over a period of 2.6 seconds.
The interior lighting control system turns on the lighting fixtures when one of the following events occurs:
- The central switching unit receives the signal to unlock the locks from the remote control
- One of the doors opens, including the tailgate
- The ignition key is turned from position II (ignition on) or from position I (auxiliary equipment) to position 0 (ignition off).
- After the timer has run out of the off delay period or after the last door is closed and not locked
- Ignition switch is in position 0 (ignition off) and an external request arrives (by key or remote control) to lock doors that are already closed.
- Ignition key turns from position 0 (ignition off) to position I (auxiliary equipment) or in position II (ignition on)
- The last door is closed during or after locking from outside the vehicle with the key or remote control
- The last door closes when the ignition key is in the ignition position

The local lighting for the seats of the first and second rows is the same for all models, but their location may vary depending on the specifications of the model. Both lamp assemblies have three switches: one for the main interior lamp, and two for each local lamp.
On standard vehicles, the interior lights are located directly in the openings in the headlining trimmed at the edge of the handles.
On vehicles with upgraded equipment, interior lamp for first row seats (front) housed in a cabinet that also houses the sunroof switch and/or voice control microphones (depending on vehicle configuration). The interior light for the second row seats is also located in the housing that houses the rear heater controls.
The main interior lights act as part of the automatic interior lighting system. Local lighting lamps are controlled manually.
Baseless lamps with a power of 5 W are used in the main interior lamp and in the local lighting lamps.
The interior lighting for the first row seats also has an LED night light. The night light is one of the functions of the light switch, which also dims the illumination of the switches and the instrument panel display. The night light provides very limited illumination of the center console and center console when driving at night without affecting the driver's night vision.
Main interior lamp
The operation of the main interior lights does not depend on the position of the ignition key. The lamp can be turned on automatically when the CJB receives one of the possible signals or manually by pressing the middle switch on the lamp body. A non-latching type switch completes the circuit to the CJB. Closing the circuit is a signal for the CJB unit to turn on or off the interior light for the first row seats (and also, the interior lamp for the second row seats, if equipped). The interior lights remain off until the switch is pressed again.
As previously described, the interior lights can be switched off permanently by pressing the middle switch for at least 3 seconds. Closing the circuit for 3 seconds is recognized by the CJB, which treats it as a permanent trip request.
Local lighting lanterns
Both of the interior lights for the first and second row seats have spotlights that are located next to the main interior light. These lights are controlled by two non-latching switches located on either side of the main light switch.
Spot lights for third row seats
The local lighting for the third row seats is located in the headlining, above the rear windows. These local lighting lamps are installed on cars with seven seats, i.e. third row seats.
The lights work regardless of the position of the ignition key. The lights are equipped with a fixed rocker switch that allows you to turn them on and off manually. The direction of the light beam of the local lighting lamps is not regulated.
The lights are not part of the automatic interior lighting system and are therefore only switched on manually.
Spotlights use 5W roundabout lamps.
Glove box light
The lamp is located inside the glove box and has a built-in switch. The switch operates by opening and closing the glove box lid, respectively, turning the light on and off.
The lantern has a 5W scalloped lamp.
Lanterns for lighting the space around the door
A lantern is installed in each door, illuminating the surface of the road and under the door when the door is opened. Lights for lighting the space around the door are located in the lower part of the inner lining of the front and rear doors.
These lights are part of an automatic interior lighting system. Each lantern uses a 5 watt imp/roundabout lamp.
Footwell lights
On both sides of the control panel, in its lower part, there are two lamps for illuminating the footwells. The operation of these lamps, which are part of the interior lighting system, is controlled by the CJB unit.
These lanterns use a 5W roundabout lamp.
Luggage compartment light
The luggage compartment light is located in the middle of the rear top bar trim panel at the rear of the vehicle, above the luggage compartment door opening. The operation of this lantern, which is part of the interior lighting system, is controlled by the CJB unit.
The lantern has a 5W socketless lamp.
Vanity mirror lights
Each of the two cosmetic mirrors has two lighting lamps. The lights turn on when the mirror cover is raised. The vanity mirror lights operate regardless of the ignition key position and are not part of the interior lighting system, although they are covered by the energy saving function controlled by the CJB.
These lights use low voltage 1.2W scalloped lamps.
