Input signals
The central switching unit receives input signals from the following switches:
- Light switch Position of marker lamps Position of headlights Automatic position (AUTO) (if available)
- Position of marker lights
- headlight position
- Automatic position (AUTO) (if available)
- Stoplight switch
- The left multi-function stalk controls the turn signals and the high beam/headlight signaling
- Hazard switch
- Rain/light sensor (LIN signal)
Electrical circuit protection
The central switching unit provides protection for all outdoor lighting circuits. Most outdoor lighting circuits are protected by conventional fuses, however the following circuits are protected by unipolar transistors (FET).
- dipped headlights
- high beam headlights
- Cornering lights / Pivot side lights
- direction indicators
- Direction indicators on a trailer
The central switching unit records fault codes that can be read by the T4 diagnostic tool. The fault code indicates the location of its occurrence, which helps in the diagnosis.
Alarm indication
The external lighting system is used to request activation and deactivation of the alarm system.
When the driver locks the vehicle, the hazard warning lights come on three times to visually confirm successful locking. The acknowledgment signal cycle is represented by a 0.5 second on with a 0.5 second interval between each.
When the driver unlocks the vehicle, a hazard warning flasher is activated for three seconds to visually confirm successful unlocking.
When an alarm is triggered, the hazard warning lights flash for 30 seconds with a cycle of 0.38/0.38 seconds (on off.) and with a break of 5 seconds every 30 seconds. For more information refer to Anti-Theft - Active (419-01A Anti-Theft - Active)
Gong warning about not switched off lighting fixtures
If the ignition key is in the OFF position (0) or in the power supply position of the auxiliary equipment (I), and the light switch is left in the parking lights or headlights on position, a warning chime will sound when the driver opens the door. The gong reminds the driver that the exterior lights are left on
The source of the warning chime is a loudspeaker located in the instrument panel, which turns on when signals from the central switching unit are received via the CAN bus about an open door and about the ignition off.
Collision signal activation
When a collision signal is received from the airbag and seat belt system controller, the CJB will activate the hazard lights and turn signal indicators located on the instrument panel.
The hazard warning remains active until the ignition key is turned to position I or 0, or if the signals from the airbag and seat belt computer stop. For more information refer to Air Bag and Safety Belt Pretensioner Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) (501-20B)
Headlight timer
The CJB acts as a headlight timer that can remain on for some time after the driver exits the vehicle. This function is intended for the convenience of the driver: the headlights illuminate his way to the door of the house.
To activate this function, the light switch must be in the headlight or position lamp position when the ignition switch is switched from the ignition position to the off position. Then you need to turn the light switch to the OFF or AUTO position (if available). After the timer is activated, the dipped beam headlights will turn on for the set time.
The duration of the headlights is set by the driver up to 60 seconds in increments of 10 seconds. The default duration for headlights is 20 seconds.
The default value can be changed by an authorized Land Rover dealer or driver using the user settings menu.
To access the menu when the vehicle is stationary and in any position of the ignition key, press the on-board computer button (located on the end of the lever of the left multifunction steering column switch). Menu options can be «scroll through» using the search keys on the audio remote control, which is located on the steering wheel. The menu options are shown in the information center display. Find the headlight timer option and change how long the headlights stay on using the search keys. Confirm your choice by pressing the on-board computer button. For more information, please refer to the Information and Message Center (413-08)
NOTE: The headlight timer function is canceled in the following cases:
- The ignition key moves out of position I (auxiliary equipment) to position II (ignition on).
- The light switch switches from the off position to the side lamp position.
