The rear light unit is a single unit that includes: brake/position light, turn signal, auxiliary position light, reversing light and fog light.
The block contains five lamps with a bayonet mount (six bulbs in vehicles shipped in the US that have a side marker light added). The lamp sockets are inserted into the corresponding holes in the housing in the lamp unit and are fixed when turned. Each cartridge is wired to a connector located on the back of the rear light housing.
The rear light unit is built into the recess of the car body. The rear light unit is attached with two studs along the outer edge to the car body. On the inside, the lamp unit is fastened with two screws, which are located near the opening of the tailgate.
Brake light and tail light
The top light is both a brake light and a marker light, which uses a 21/5 W lamp with a bayonet base. The brake light uses a 21W bulb and the position light uses a 5W bulb.
The brake light is switched on when the ignition switch is in position II and the limit switch is closed when the brake pedal is pressed. The upper brake light also comes on when the brake pedal is pressed.
The brake light can be activated by the anti-lock braking system when the controlled descent function is active (HDC). The signal from the ABS closes the relay contacts, through which electricity is supplied to the brake lights of the rear lights, as well as to the upper brake light. For more information refer to Anti-Lock Control - Traction Control (206-09A)
Turn signal lamp
The turn signal, which uses a 21W bayonet lamp, is located below the brake/position light.
The direction indicators are activated by the left multifunction stalk or hazard switch. The multifunction steering column switch only works when the ignition switch is in position II (ignition on), the hazard switch operates in any circuit condition. The direction indicators operate with an on/off cycle of 0.38 seconds.
When the lamp burns out, the serviceable lamps of the direction indicators of the same side of the vehicle flash in the same rhythm. However, the corresponding turn signal indicator warns the driver of a burned out bulb by flashing at double the frequency.
Marker lamp
The marker lamp, which uses a 21W/5W bayonet lamp, is located below the direction indicator. Only the parking light uses a 5W lamp.
The side lights are switched on by the light switch. The side lights can work regardless of the position of the ignition switch. The side lights will also be switched on if the light switch is in the AUTO position and the central switching unit receives a signal from the rain/light sensor to turn on the outside lights.
Reversing lamp
The reversing lamp, which uses a 21W bayonet lamp, is located under the position lamp.
The reversing lamp is switched on in position II of the ignition switch, provided that the CJB has received a signal on the CAN bus that the reverse gear has been engaged. Both manual and automatic transmissions have a reverse sensor that senses reverse gear is engaged.
Rear fog lamp
The rear fog light, which uses a 21W bayonet bulb, is located at the very bottom of the rear light unit.
The rear fog lights are controlled by a light switch. If the ignition key is in position II and the light switch is set to the parking lights on or the headlights on, the front fog lights will turn on (if installed) you need to pull the switch to the second position. If the front fog lamps are not installed, it is enough to pull the light switch to the first position. When the rear fog lamps are turned on, a warning lamp is activated on the instrument panel.
