Removal and installation the headlight assembly (Discovery 3)

Removal


CAUTION: When working on vehicles equipped with xenon headlights, the following precautions must be observed. Failure to follow these instructions may result in exposure to ultraviolet rays, severe electric shock, burns, or explosion. Keep the headlights off at all times. Wear eye and hand protection. Never operate the headlights or inspect bulbs with the sockets removed from the headlight.


1. Disconnect the ground cable from the battery. For more information, refer to Specification.

2. Remove the radiator grille. For more information, refer to Radiator Grille (76.55.03)

3. Remove the headlight.
  • Release the 2 clamps.
  • Disconnect the electrical connector.

NOTE: The illustration shows a high intensity discharge lamp.


NOTE: If disassembly was performed only to gain access to other components, no further disassembly should be performed.


NOTE: If there is a silica gel packet in the headlight, do not remove it.


Remove the headlight bulb.
  • Remove the cover.
  • Disconnect the electrical connector.
  • Release the clamp.
Release the clamp.


5. Remove the inner headlight bulb.


  • Remove the cover.
  • Disconnect the electrical connector.
  • Release the clamp.
Release the clamp.


6. Remove the outer headlight bulb.
  • Remove the outer headlight clamp.
  • Remove the cover.
  • Release the electrical connector.
Release the electrical connector.


7. Remove the side headlight bulb. Release the bulb holder.

7. Remove the side headlight bulb. Release the bulb holder.


8. Remove the parking light bulb. Release the bulb holder.



8. Remove the parking light bulb. Release the bulb holder.


9. Remove the turn signal bulb.
  • Remove the cover.
  • Release the lamp socket.
Release the lamp socket.


10. Remove the gas discharge module cover.
  • Remove two screws.
  • Remove the seal.
Remove the seal.


11. Remove the gas discharge module.
  • Remove two screws.
  • Disconnect the electrical connector.
Disconnect the electrical connector.





Installation


1. Install the gas discharge module.
  • Connect the electrical connector.
  • Tighten the 2 screws.
2. Install the gas discharge module cover.

  • Install the seal.
  • Tighten the screws.
3. Install the turn signal lamp.
  • Secure the lamp holder.
  • Install the lid.
4. Install the parking light bulb. Install the bulb holder.

5. Install the side headlight bulb. Install the bulb holder.

6. Install the outer headlight bulb.
  • Connect the electrical connector.
  • Install the lid.
  • Install the outer headlight clamp.

CAUTION: Make sure the seal is installed correctly.


Install the inner headlight bulb.
  • Secure with a clamp.
  • Connect the electrical connector.
  • Install the lid.

CAUTION: Make sure the seal is installed correctly.


Install the macaw lamp.
  • Secure with a clamp.
  • Connect the electrical connector.
  • Install the lid.
9. Install the headlight.
  • Connect the electrical connector.
  • Secure with two clamps.
10. Install the radiator grille. For more information, refer to Radiator Grille (76.55.03)

11. Connect the ground cable to the battery. For more information, refer to Specification.

12.
NOTE: The headlamp beams should be parallel and 1.2% below the horizontal.


Check that the headlight beam is adjusted correctly.
