DRL system for Canadian market
The DRL system for this market uses full brightness low beam headlamps. The parking lights and license plate lights are also turned on, but the instrument panel lighting is not turned on. The DRL system is activated when a combination of the following parameters is present:
- On vehicles with a manual transmission, the parking brake is off; on vehicles with an automatic transmission, the selector is not in the PARK position
- Ignition switch is in position II
- The central switching unit receives a signal confirming the operation of the engine
- The light switch is in the off position or the parking lights on position.
NOTE: If the light switch is set to the headlights on position, the DRL system is disabled and the headlights and side lights operate normally.
NOTE: Adaptive Headlights (AFS) (if any) do not work when the DRL system is on.
NOTE: While the DRL system is in operation, the high beam signals are still available (using the left multifunction steering column switch). It is no longer possible to permanently turn on the high beam headlights using the left multifunction stalk.
The DRL system is deactivated when the parking brake is applied on a manual transmission vehicle and the selector lever is placed in the PARK position on an automatic transmission vehicle. This reduces battery drain during long stops with the engine running at low outside temperatures. Operation of the DRL system is restored if the parking brake is released or the selector is moved out of the PARK position.
