DRL system for Canadian market
The DRL system for this market uses full brightness low beam headlamps. The front and rear marker lights and license plate lights are also turned on, but the instrument panel lighting is not turned on. The DRL system is activated when a combination of the following parameters is present:
- The automatic transmission selector lever is not in the PARK position.
- Auxiliary electrical junction box detects that power mode 6 is selected (ignition on).
- The parking brake is not applied.
NOTE: If the light control module rotary switch is set to "Headlights", the DRLs turn off and the side lights and headlights operate normally.
NOTE: Adaptive Front Light System (AFS) (in the presence of) has no effect when the DRL system is active unless the light control module rotary switch is turned to "Headlights".
NOTE: While the DRL system is in operation, the high beam signals are still available (using the left multifunction steering column switch).
NOTE: When the DRL system is active, the headlight washer function will not operate unless the light control module's rotary switch is turned to "Headlights".
It is no longer possible to permanently turn on the high beam headlights using the left steering column multifunction switch. When the selector lever is in the PARK position on vehicles with an automatic transmission, the DRL system is disabled. This is done to reduce battery discharge during prolonged engine idling in cold climates. When the selector lever is moved to another position from the PARK position, normal operation of the DRL system resumes.
If the parking brake is applied, the DRL system is turned off to reduce battery drain.
