The multifunction switch is located on the left side of the steering column and performs the following functions:
- Switching headlights from low beam to high beam and vice versa
- High beam signaling
- Switching on left or right turn indicators
- Trip computer functions
The headlight high beam and headlight signaling functions are wired to the steering wheel module. When the switch is activated in any position, the ground circuit through the switch is closed for the selected function as read by the steering wheel module. The steering wheel module then issues a message on the LIN bus to the CJB which activates the selected function.
The turn signal indicator lamps are connected and operate in a similar way - by completing the ground circuit for the selected function. This is read by the steering wheel module, and the module then sends a message related to the selected function to the CJB, which in turn activates the required turn signal indicator lamp.
