The AFS control module processes these signals and provides an output signal to the headlight beam leveling motors to adjust the leveling of the headlights according to vehicle speed and steering angle.
NOTE: For markets where vehicles are supplied with daytime running lights (DRL), the AFS system does not operate when the DRL system is active.
The AFS control module is connected to the high speed CAN bus and receives information from other vehicle systems. The control module is connected to the AFS power supply module via the LIN bus. The AFS control module calculates, using input from other systems, the desired headlight leveling position. The position information is then sent over the LIN bus to the AFS power module located on each headlight assembly. This module then outputs the appropriate signals to power the AFS stepper motors in the headlight to drive them to the correct position.
The horizontal position of the headlights depends on a number of input variables. The position is determined by vehicle speed and steering angle. When reverse gear is selected, the headlights move to the «straight ahead», to avoid dazzling other road users.
In order to obtain a good light distribution, the headlights swivel angles differ, for example, when making a left turn, the left headlight deflects by a greater angle than the right.
In the event of a malfunction of the AFS system, a warning lamp flashes on the instrument panel, warning the driver of a malfunction. The AFS warning light illuminates when the ignition switch is in power mode 6 and will flash continuously until the problem is corrected.
Turning on the AFS system warning light is not necessarily related to a malfunction of this system. The malfunction may be caused by a malfunction in another system, such as a steering angle sensor, or a lack of vehicle speed signal, which is preventing the AFS system from working properly.
