Lower control arm assembly (Range Rover 3)

Do not bleed the air suspension system until the vehicle has been raised.

Dismantling


1. Raise the rear of the vehicle and install stands.

CAUTION: Do not work under a vehicle supported solely by a jack or lift. Always support the vehicle with safety stands.


2. Remove the anti-roll bar.

REAR SUSPENSION, REPAIR WORK, Anti-roll bar struts.


3. Unscrew the nut and bolt securing the body height sensor rod to the lower suspension arm.


3. Unscrew the nut and bolt securing the body height sensor rod to the lower suspension arm.

4. Place a jack as a support under the lower suspension arm.

5. Bleed the air from the rear air suspension circuit.

REAR SUSPENSION, ADJUSTMENTS, Air suspension - releasing air and filling the system with air.


6. Unscrew the bolt securing the shock absorber to the lower arm.


6. Unscrew the bolt securing the shock absorber to the lower arm.



7. Disconnect the shock absorber from the lower arm.

8. Loosen the screw securing the air spring to the lower arm.

9. Remove and discard the nut and bolt that secure the lower control arm to the hub.

10. Unscrew the 2 bolts securing the lower arm to the subframe.


10. Unscrew the 2 bolts securing the lower arm to the subframe.

11. Release the mounting flange of the air spring from the lower arm.

CAUTION: Do not deform the pneumatic element - do not stretch or compress it.


12. Unscrew the 2 bolts securing the lower arm to the subframe. Discard the bolts.

13. Remove the lower arm.

Assembly


1. Clean the mating surfaces of the lower arm and subframe.

2. Install the lower arm and install the new bolts, but do not tighten them completely yet.

3. Raise the lower arm and insert the mounting flange of the air spring into it.

4. Clean the mating surfaces of the lower arm and hub.

5. Align the hub with the lower arm and install a new nut and bolt, tightening them to 250 N·m (184 lb ft).

6. Tighten the air spring retaining screw to the lower arm to 7 N·m (5 lb ft).

7. Align the shock absorber with the lower arm, install the mounting bolt and tighten it to 110 N·m (81 lb ft).



8. Tighten the lower arm-to-subframe bolt to 165 N·m (121 lb ft).

9. Bring the pressure in the air suspension system to the nominal value.

10. Position the height sensor link to the lower arm and tighten the nut and bolt to 19 N·m (14 lb ft).

11. Install the anti-roll bar.

12. Remove the supports and lower the vehicle.
