Before disconnecting the battery, carefully read the "Disconnecting the Battery" section and follow all instructions therein.

Removal
1. Place the car on a lift.
2. Disconnect the ground cable from the battery.
3. Drain the fluid from the engine cooling system.
COOLING SYSTEM: V8 engine, ADJUSTMENTS, Draining coolant, flushing the system and filling.
4. Remove the fan viscous coupling.
COOLING SYSTEM: V8 engine, REPAIR WORK, Viscous fan clutch.
5. Remove the accessory drive belt tensioner.
ENGINE STARTING AND BATTERY CHARGING SYSTEM, REPAIR WORK, Tensioner - Attachment drive belt - V8 engine.
6. Loosen the clamp and disconnect the upper radiator hose from the radiator.
7. Loosen the clamp and disconnect the upper radiator hose from the engine cooling system pump and the generator housing.
8. Move the hose to the side.
9. Disconnect the tube from the fuel vapor canister filter purge valve, release the valve from the bracket and move it to the side.
10. Disconnect the fastening clamp from the battery cable, which is located on the valve timing cover.
11. Disconnect the connector from the generator.
12. Loosen the nut and disconnect the battery cable from the generator.
13. Release the wire harness from the clamp located on the generator.
14. Remove the 6 alternator mounting bolts, remove the wiring harness clamp and remove the alternator. Discard the alternator sealing ring.
Installation
1. Clean the mating surfaces of the generator and the timing gear cover.
2. Lubricate the new O-ring and install it on the generator.
3. Install the generator into the housing, tighten the generator mounting bolts and tighten them to a torque of 13 Nm.
4. Connect the battery cable to the generator and tighten the nut to 13 N·m.
5. Secure the wire to the battery and to the mount located on the timing cover.
6. Connect the connector to the generator connector.
7. Secure the generator wiring harness with the clamp located on the generator.
8. Reinstall the fuel vapor canister purge valve and connect the tubes to the valve.
9. Connect the upper radiator hose to the coolant pump and the generator housing. Tighten the clamps.
10. Attach the upper hose to the radiator and secure with a clamp.
11. Install the accessory drive belt tensioner.

12. Install the fan viscous coupling.

13. Connect the ground cable of the battery.
14. Fill the engine cooling system with coolant.
