V8 engine starter (Range Rover 3)

Before disconnecting the battery, carefully read the "Disconnecting the Battery" section and follow all instructions therein.

GENERAL INFORMATION, Precautions when working with electrical equipment.

Removal


1. Place the car on a lift.

2. Disconnect the ground cable from the battery.

3. Remove the air duct.

HEATING AND VENTILATION, REPAIR WORKS, Air intake box.


4. Remove the terminal cover, unscrew the nut and disconnect the 2 wires from the terminal.


4. Remove the terminal cover, unscrew the nut and disconnect the 2 wires from the terminal.

5. Remove the right exhaust manifold.

EXHAUST MANIFOLD AND EXHAUST SYSTEM: V-8 Engine, REPAIR, Right Exhaust Manifold Gasket(s).


6. Unscrew 2 bolts and remove the heat shield.


6. Unscrew 2 bolts and remove the heat shield.

7. Unscrew 2 bolts and release the starter.


7. Unscrew 2 bolts and release the starter.



8. Position the starter to provide access to the electrical connectors.

9. Loosen the nut and disconnect the battery cable from the starter.


9. Loosen the nut and disconnect the battery cable from the starter.

10. Unscrew the 2 nuts and disconnect the remaining wires from the starter.

11. Disconnect the starter breather tube.

12. Remove the starter.

Installation


1. Clean the starter and mating surfaces from dirt. Clean the guide pin and the pin hole.

2. Connect the starter breather tube.

3. Position the starter, connect the wires to the starter and tighten the nuts securing the wires to the starter to a torque of 6 N·m.

4. Connect the battery cable to the starter and tighten the mounting nut to a torque of 15 N·m.

5. Install the starter, tighten the 2 bolts and tighten them to 47 Nm.

6. Install the heat shield, tighten the 2 bolts and tighten the shield mounting bolts to 10 Nm.

7. Install the right exhaust manifold.

EXHAUST MANIFOLD AND EXHAUST SYSTEM: V-8 Engine, REPAIR, Right Exhaust Manifold Gasket(s).


8. Connect the 2 wires to the terminal, tighten the terminal nut and install the terminal cover.

9. Reinstall the air duct.

HEATING AND VENTILATION, REPAIR WORKS, Air intake box.


10. Connect the ground cable of the battery.
